E1M2 - Castle of the Damned

200-172

Reports
The game was played on Z since iop had been acting funny and bbb was too unstable for the lot of us. Due to our high pings (28-40 + griffins standard hpw ping) we requested that a minping 27 be set to even the odds a bit. FU accepted; very sporty of 'em, thanks guys. E1M2 started with team quad and rl for us (late rl, noone spawned it), but fu got the YA but didn't manage to keep it for long. We got the 2nd RL as well but I'm not sure what happened to those when it was time for 2nd quad. FU got semigood control of the map by the time of third quad. It broke however when we managed to sneak a RL through spikes to take over YA, and later Quad. Map volleyed back and forth like a good ball in a tennisgame, eventually to settle in our favor long enough for us to secure a good enough lead to win it. GG! /dak - by Griffins Tappra Gossar

DM2 - Claustrophobopolis

135-170

Reports
Well, DM2 started totally in our favor. SR spawn deluxe. We got both RLs and Quad, but when our quadder went deep into low he made a mistake (oops!) and br?stade a bit too much. They used that RL and the low rl well to break our control and get a quad, with which they secured the high part of the map very well. For a while it looked grim, but we managed to pull together all at the same time and get ironlock control of the map. So fast it even surprised some of us; ermac got a quad and griffin told him to secure and not attack - but voila, we had 2 RLs beside the quadder and high rl was waiting to be picked up by our 4th guy. Did I say ironlock control? Well, the iron was rusted, cus FU did a good attack only minutes later and broke our control. After that it was downhill. They kept quadding low to steal RLs and interrupting our attacks through bigroom very well - they really deserved this win. Well played guys! /dak - by Griffins Tappra Gossar

E2M2_TDM - Ogre Citadel - TDM Edition

188-157

Reports
battle of the titans? //oosi - by NQR Admin

I assume some people will go "wtf? e2m2tdm for decider?" when they see this. Well, we've been sucking badly on dm3 lately, and we've also been wanting more cmt4 ever since that tight game against SSC, so we went ahead and removed DM3 from the decider draw. Alas, FU decided to remove CMT4 and we got kenyamap as result. After some whining from grf about how he was no good on this lpb-kenya-map he goes ahead and wins it for us. GG bondeskills! It started in favor of FU, although I'm not entirely sure who got what, but after a while into the game they had RA locked tight and wouldn't let us get close to quad. We kept killing their quad whenever it peeked out from GL/Quad area however, so the game kept pretty tight. I think at some point it was tied 125-125. By that time we had overtaken the RA area though, by repetitive shaft attacks from water and eventually gotten the right timing on quad. GG on a bad map guys, better luck next time. /dak - by Griffins Tappra Gossar

Well with 3 weeks of idling and Ctrl/Bamse/Tenhi not playing ATM this was not bad

Mainly it's because the quad is 2 inches from RA with the only way of attack on that area being either past the water (which, if you have a guy at RA, he can hear the elevator from mega and easily take out anyone coming that way) or past the GL by Quad, which is waaaay too tight to attack if there's someone at Quad. Since there is no pent, and only one RL and Shaft on the map, as well as no 2nd RA, there's no viable way to break a well setup control of the map. The map isn't that bad when neither team is that good on it, but once you've played it a couple of hundred times... it'll get bad.

lol what about the stairs at water that go directly to quad!?!? :<

Apparently dak means that ra camper secures that way Hagge. Especially when there is a spawn at RA! "but once you've played it a couple of hundred times... it'll get bad" wow dak, your incite on maps sure is great, worst bullshit I have ever heared :)

dak (213.113.123.12) 2004-03-03 14:47:38
To get to the stairs that go straight to quad you have to go by the elevator at mega now... the waterway from RL was removed. That's what made E2M2TDM even worse than E2M2. When you go by elevator, the RA guy will hear unless he's deaf, and he'll be waiting right at GL. It's like trying to get past a guy camping RA/Ring at DM3 through tunnel - you pick that ammo up and he'll hear you, and be waiting. What I meant to say with that comment was that people will learn the map to the point that chokepoints as bad as the ones I pointed out will lead to unbreakable control. A good rule of thumb when making maps is the unbreakable chokepoints, if there are any, shouldn't be on the same side as the team that's in control of Quad. That way goes inbalance, and that way goes a possibly good map down the drain.

And I think you mean insight Link... and yes, having played just about every custom map out there as well as made my own, I do believe my insight on mapmaking and maps in general is pretty good. And I don't mean that in a boasting way. Fuck you and your every-custom-map-is-better-than-tb3 philosophy. There are good custom maps, and there are bad. This one is bad.

dak (213.113.123.12) 2004-03-03 15:14:50
Let me rephrase that last sentence. This one is, in my not-so-humble opinion, worthless. There. :p

So how can you secure RA dak, if you are going down to own and enemy that comes from LG?

dak (213.113.123.12) 2004-03-03 20:17:33
Depends. If RA is up you either pick it up or let a mate pick it up. If you're full and can't pick it up you bore a rocket and pick it up. 20 sec to own enemy. If it's due you can keep him at bay by spamming the water (there's one point he'll have to cross due to the steps being in the way, sorta) until it spawns. If it's just been picked it's not a problem. God forbid that a nmy pops behind you when taking care of him though, omfg, you might die! /sarcasm off.

Link (80.213.41.55) 2004-03-04 03:46:39
Oh, it depends uh? Theory and "but"s and "if"s are always the solution! :D

L (193.167.224.11) 2004-03-04 08:02:11
Where's the ra at e2m2tdm??!?!

L (193.167.224.11) 2004-03-04 08:05:21
Greit match this was. I'll have to say im surprised by our performance with so little praccine. GTG played with strict and defensive tactics. NICE! And made such counter-attacks that we weren't able to prevent them from getting the maps in control. These kind of tactical playing is also called 'nysv?ys' in finnish. ;D
