Hello Zaq, thank you for taking the time to talk to me. |
1. Ok to be different from all other interviews please lets begin with your personal info :D Name? Age? Where are you from? Interests? Favorite Music? Favorite Movies? What do you do for a living? |
My name is Johan, and I am currently living in Stockholm Sweden but I’m born out in nowhere in the Swedish woods.
I’m studying philosophy at Stockholm’s university and I’ve studied a lot of music so I’m studying and also being a musician at the same time.
Music I like is mostly singer/songwriters such as Ben folds or Elvis Costello.
2. Now tell me how did you get your first contact with Quake and when was that? |
Oh, well I hardly remember (I’m so old :>) but I think I was introduced to it by a friend back in 96 or something and we kept on playing but later on all friends put QW aside for IRL or newer "cooler" games. |
3. Can you give us a brief summary of your QW career? |
Hehe well not much to say there. I’m a CTF player from the start, played for Clan Necronomicon from 98-00 and The Hellraisers (Hell) from 02-04. Some guys from DQM that also played CTF dragged me into the DM scene and here I am and that was probably October 05 or something when CTF scene totally died. |
4. Imagine that the CTF scene was still alive and rockin'...would you give up on CTF to play DM? |
Hehe very hard to say, can’t I do both?
Nah seriously, I would probably play CTF, because I have much more skill there if I have any skill that is :). |
5. What were the greatest moments you had in QW? |
I haven’t really had any super moment in QW yet, or you could say that I have small moments all the time like when you do something good that is the moment for the moment if you understand what I mean otherwise we did some good games with DQM last season in EQL which I will remember. |
6. How do you see the creation of DQM The Stars and why didn't you guys just kept the same team along with the new players? |
The creation of DQM The Stars has been good overall I would say, the more skilled players can now play on their level and we lesser skilled don’t need to here the whine anymore hehe nah just kidding.
There are two main reasons why DQM splitted up, first of all we had a lot of active members and some of us wanted to go further and some just continue playing for the fun of it and DQM The Stars hade to recruit some new players, and old DQM had to recruit some players but we still hang out and being friends and all so I would say its mostly good, cause everyone gets what they want.
7. What do you enjoy most...playing against better teams or worse? |
Haha trick question ey?
I like both but I prefer very even games 10-20 frag diff on each map or playing against a slightly better team otherwise you would never get better or learn anything.
8. I remember when DQM started to play DM and I must say that you guys evolved very quickly. Is there any advice you would give to some noob team out there? |
Check demos, practice a lot, don’t give up when things are not going you’re way and most of all make sure you have a lot of fun when playing. |
9. What do you think about the NQR system this season? |
This is the first NQR for me ever so I don’t really have anything to compare with, but I think it’s pretty good.
Yeah I don’t really have much to say about that actually. |
10. Who do you think is gonna win the NQR - Bronze Cup? |
Oh I really don’t have a clue... could be anyone from the seeded teams I would guess but DC has a pretty solid team, so do CubeEdge.
So my guess would be DC, CubeEdge or maybe DQM can take it home :).
11. Who is the best player you have ever played with in 4on4? |
When we have mixed DQM The Stars and old DQM in some ladder games or just praccs I’ve played some games with TheEvilDog yeah, I think he’s the best I’ve played a clan game with (in dm). |
12. Do you have any favorite qw-clan or player of all time yourself? |
Not really in that way but back in the CTF days there was a guy called SJ which I liked a lot always solid defender and never did any mistakes.
In dm I like the way nabbe plays, carefully and just sneaking around taking out nmys one by one but favorite clan... hmms I would say the Hellraisers in CTF and FS in dm.
13. Are you a fan of any maps besides tb3? Would you like to see any custom maps brought back into QW tournaments? |
Yes I’m always open for new maps, some of my best games have been played on cmt3, cmt4 is ok but I’m a big fan of cmt3.
Tb3 gets kind of boring in the long run but I can see why people do like them so much.
So my answer to that I guess is: yes I would like to see other maps then tb3 in the leagues!
14. What setup are you currently using to play and why? Like mouse, mat, gl or soft... |
I’m running Fuhquake GL or Ezquake GL, I’m just waiting for that security (who isn’t). I have a Microsoft Intellimouse explorer 4.0 because it fits my hand good and has the perfect number of buttons and for that mouse I have a Steelpad 4d. |
15. Do you usually whine a lot during games or do you belong to the quiet ones? My tip is that you belong to the quiet ones! :D |
Guess how wrong you are :)
I can get very whiny it’s for max 10 secs and then I’m calm again most often.
But I’m very quiet on mm3 overall, except when someone screws up or I screw up, and that’s something I have to work on.
There’s no need to whine on mm3 because everyone knows when they did something wrong and yelling and making them feel bad just affects their play so you could say I’m talking and shouting on mm3 for the wrong reasons.
16. What do you think about the qw-scene now-a-days? |
As I said before, I haven’t really been into the dm scene for so long so its hard for me to say but I’m always looking for a game, 2on2 or 4on4 and I often find that its no one around to play with and that’s kind of boring, but I’m very glad that so many people still do play QW it can always get better but for the moment this is what we have and I hope we have it for a few more years.
And we have a handful of people to thank for that and you know who you are, Thank you for the great job you are doing! |
17. Thanks a lot for your time Zaq, any last words that you would like to share with us? |
Well I hope people will keep playing QW and having a good time, because I will!
Thank you.
